Adversarial Patterns / The Fifth Element
Thursday Apr 18, 2024
Thursday Apr 18, 2024
On this episode, Josh tells the story of clothes that we will maybe one day need to fool our robot overlords. We're not talking polka dots and plaid here... well, I guess we kind of are? Then Brett talks characters, cast, contradictions and humor while extolling the virtues of an action sci-fi cult classic from the '90s that people either love or hate: The Fifth Element. Why is "Milla Jovovich" so hard to pronounce?

On this episode, Brett tells the story of the best acceptance speech in Razzie history when Halle Berry accepted her award for her role in Catwoman. Then Josh ponders the future of space travel while discussing a show he has been talking about for literally years. He loves this sci-fi drama which blends fiction with history and not just because it stars Joel Kinnaman. What would happen if Russia beat us to the moon? Find out what probably would have happened by finally subscribing to Apple TV and binging: For All Mankind.

On this episode, Josh tells a terrifying story of a real-life caving accident with a deceptively adorable name. Then Brett is joined by his partner and the world's fourth Contentologist to pitch a show that has succeeded where America has failed. (The American Public Sex Education curriculum has failed us.) It's time for a lot of dong talk and vulva talk with this British teenage coming-of-age comedy drama: Sex Education.

Also on this episode, cherry blossoms. It's time for the action-adventure video game for Sucker Punch Productions: Ghost of Tsushima.

And then Brett snubs the Emmy's who snubbed this incredible dark comedy legal crime drama prequel sequel origin story hit television series about a Breaking Bad favorite character. Too many adjectives you say? It's all good man! We're talking about the show: Better Call Saul.

Nonstop Flight Record / twenty one pilots
Thursday Nov 02, 2023
Thursday Nov 02, 2023
On this episode, Brett helps himself to another serving of an obscure and old-timey aviation world record that somehow stands to this day, 64 years ago! No word on what happened to the poop. Then Josh fills eagerly awaiting earholes with a passionate diatribe about the unclassifiable musical mavericks who take genre-blending to heavenly heights. This isn't your grandmother's alt-rock group. (Or maybe it is?) This episode is all about the introspective and boundary-pushing band: twenty one pilots.

Flat Earth / World War Z (Book)
Thursday Oct 19, 2023
Thursday Oct 19, 2023
On this episode, Josh pokes fun at his favorite two-dimensional conspiracy theory and the colorful community who advocates for it against all odds and logic... yes, he's talking about flat-earthers. (He also tries to convince everyone Brett is a flat-earther which is wildly untrue and outlandish! How dare he!) Brett then plunges us into the chilling personal narratives of a dystopian war that feels eerily plausible, particularly in a world still reeling from the Covid era. This isn't your run-of-the-mill zombie fiction, it's the gripping, end-times narrative of World War Z. (If it was not already clear, we're dissecting the BOOK here, not its less-than-stellar cinematic counterpart.)

First Parachute Jump / District 9
Thursday Oct 05, 2023
Thursday Oct 05, 2023
On this episode, Brett tells the story of the first ever modern parachute jump in history. André-Jacques Garnerin is a man few have heard of but is basically the parachuting pioneer for ever skydiver in history. Then Josh deep dives into an emotionally-wrenching but incredibly thought-provoking and action packed science fiction in the apparently sci-fi peak year of 2009. This is a Neil Blomkamp directorial debut (and also a debut for star Sharlto Copley who gives in incredible performance) that you don't want to miss if you love complicated protagonists, scary South African gangs and terrifyingly evil mega-corporations. We are talking about the apartheid alien epic: District 9.
